MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I am indeed very late in updating my site for all that has happened in the last days. It has been Christmas (a very good one) I have seen Liz, Will, Meghan, and Wiggle Worm (equally as good )I have seen Jenn (equally as good as well) and have been working on a more readable update to the design of this site. Its almost New Year, and quite a bit of what I listed above deserves more explanation, but I am again quite tired about by this redesign process and need now to do something AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER. So please, let me know again what you think about the new look, all of the comments from before were supa helpful. Also, I had 9 comments AT ONCE! Finally, Joe Chandler joins the "A list" of popular kids.

Ok, maybe not.

But it was nice.

I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

Please do let me know what you think of the redesign. I did it all by my lonesome!
Peace,
Joe
Well howdy there.
After some work, I have redesigned the old website. Buddha follows you. Scroll and see. Also, the comments work now. So comment away!
I have had a great time since my last post, but this redesign has made me a bit tired, so I'll write more tomorrow.

I hope everyone is well!

Peace,
Joe

There are no more teenage Chandlers. Today Nick turned 20. So Happy Birthday to the poopface! We ate Mata's and saw Return of the King.
It is awesome, you must see it.
Also, I have switched comment scripts, so comment away! Perhaps this one will work.

I am tired. Sleepy time.

I hope everyone is well,
Peace,
Joe

That picture came back to haunt me again.
Almost.
So Liz decided to get Peeg to redesign her site with my questionable beach pictures from my childhood as the background. Unfortunately for Liz and fortunately for me, it just looked like Liz supported bad child porn (She doesn't) so it was removed.
Phew.
But man I need to get some ammo over here. They are bound to resurface again. And you can bet that a Chandler's mind can be prepared for such things when it needs to be.
Oh yes.
But for now I am at Liz's apartment and she made Lasagna. Awesome. And the tubby craving trumps any anger that I could possibly muster at this apparently ongoing joke.
I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

P.S. Check out my new button links. No really, do.

::Joe daces a tired looking little jig::

I just finished my last exam! I would type more about it but my hand burns from the writing.

Burns.

The writing.

Ha! I have narrowly escaped the clutches of "el flu." (That is Spanish for "the flu.") I am on the mend, and Nick and I have a Christmas tree.
It is fake.
But oh so nice! AND, reusable. AND Tori the cat won't eat it or decide to mark it. It's nice. In fact, I got a good many things today with my quite skimpy budget. It was the first day I have been out in a week, and my ankles are telling me so. I have been in bed for a week, so they are not happy. Nick and I went to the Thrift store (yay!), Wal-Mart (scary!), Target (Land of the Beautiful People!) and the ABC store (Booze!). All in all, a good day. A sore day, but good.
And now we have a tree with nothing but white lights on it. Its nice to have a house with a tree.
Also, I like my car.
Man its late. I am tired. And although I have had the most eventful day to report in a long time, my tiredness has promted me to write a disjointed post with only flashes of coherence and humor.
That is all: the bed, she calls.
I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

I have changed the post text color for Da Peeg.

I am still sick. Uggggh.

Peace,
Joe

Monday, December 01, 2003

Holy smokes I am SICK.
I went home for thanksgiving and my dad gave me the flu and some turkey. The turkey was great.
The flu is not great, unless you count the narcotic cough syrup.
I am so sick the doctor told me not to go to class. Literally. She said I didn't need to infect others. Like I have some alien disease from Star Trek.

Captain Picard: "Numba one, Joe Chandler has the Tannakian flu. Take him to sick bay and quarantine him immediately."

Damnit.

I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

Friday, November 28, 2003

Ha again! I have changed the link colors and the like back to reasonable settings (yes, that was another Peeg doing). Also, I have added another button. Check it out, yo.

Peace,
Joe
Um, yes. I have changed the name of my brother Peeg's link.
Well, I do like surprises.
But not some.
It appears that in the construction of my webpage Webmaster Peeg and my brother Nick decided to put up some questionable childhood pictures as my background.
But no more.
Nick showed me a bit too early I guess, and I used my fledgling webmaster skills to change all that.

So, to Nick and Da Peeg I say, "Ha."

Your scheme to reveal my liking of squishing sand under my feet was aborted. So I say,
"Ha."

I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

Man I do certainly enjoy surprises.
I am currently reading about what makes a situation surprising along the social-cognition front and I decided that instead of finishing reading I could do something that seems equally as important: post on my blog.
So here I am, posting.
First up since the last post, Peeg and Stacy had their wedding reception. It was awesome. The whole immediate family was there, and art and food and hip music. Afterwards we fit in the traditional Chandler Wedding tradition and drank Jack Daniels Single Barrel and slam danced to "Its the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)" by REM. We did this out in the parking lot of the art museum, making it even more awesome. It was cold, the whiskey was great, and the Chandlers are a damn fine bunch of slam dancers. Especially Will. You should see that man boogy boogy. Jenn came with me and saw all the siblings together at once. That in itself was wonderful. And Peeg is married to a great lady. Good times all the way around. For more accounts of said reception, see other Chandler Blogs at the top of this page.
Hmmmm, I wonder what else could be going on in Joe's life? School! Past Peeg's reception, I have been working toward the end of the semester here in my first year of grad school. Almost there, and I haven't burned out yet. I must continue... in fact, I am really quite enjoying myself.
Also it is thanksgiving soon. That will be wonderful as well.
You know, I really just don't have that much to say becasue that article is just looking at me saying, "you must read me now."
And so I shall.
That is no surprise.

Ok, sorry about that.

I hope everyone is well,
Peace,
Joe

Every once in awhile you need a weekend where you don't do much but fun things. I had one of those this weekend with Jenn. It was, as a movie add might put it, a "non-stop tour-de-fun."
I have been dating Jenn now for 6 months, and she still likes me. So in celebration of this seeming impossibility, I went to Nashville to visit her. On friday night, we watched Finding Nemo. It was one of the best Disney movies I've ever seen. It is gorgeous in terms of the animation, and there is some damn fine voice acting as well. So Nemo kicked off our weekend of supa keenness.
The next day we went to a Wildlife Preserve called Radnor Lake and saw deer. Then we went to a fancy pants dinner at The Acorn Restaurant in Nashville. Following that we went to the coolest bar ever, The Station Inn. There we saw Ronnie Reno and his band. They were incredible. The bar was this hole in the wall where awesome acts come all the time. Apparently Jenn and I didn't fit in too well, because on the way in a lady outside the bak entrance asked us accusingly, "you goin' to tha suchi bar or tha club?" I didn't know quite what she meant so I pointed at the building and said "station Inn." She seemed satisfied. (apparently there is a fancy sushi bar across the street and people often steal station inn parking spots to go there.)
The next day we went to church and then saw The Matrix Revolutions on a six-story high IMAX screen. It was, shall we say, intense. The movie, well, see it and you decide. I'm thinking that even without the IMAX it would've been... intense.
The IMAX was in the giant outlet mall where DollyWood used to be. Thats right, they tore it down and replaced the family fun place with a giant shopping mall so huge I could easily see one being able to spend the whole day in it before you realize where you are. Oh dear.
We spent the rest of the day just hanging out. That night I made spinach and cheese quesadillas. Then I came back today.
Now, alas, my time of fun has backed up work out the wazoo. I must work supa hard and get through the week, because Geoff and Stacy's reception is this weekend... which means more fun.
Someone get me some better. I am on a roll

Sorry about that last part, with the roll comment.

I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

Sakes alive them Nickel Creek kids are good at the music.
Jenn and I went to see them this weekend at Samford University and I think that my foot will never stop tapping again. No really.
I've seen them once before at City Stages (a local music festival) but only for a few minutes and from pretty far back. This time I saw the whole concert and we sat so close I could see the woodworking details of Chris Thile's mandolin. They rocked out, throwing in new stuff with all the songs on teh first two albums, and improvising the whole way. At some points it turned into an all-out jam, just rediculously awesome. They did one song that was a continuation of the Lighthouse's Tale, and a version of The Fox that involved almost 10 minutes of solos. After the show they came back for an encore and did a no-mic tribute to Elliot Smith. At that point it was like we were all just hanging out with Nickel Creek. No mics, and they were just talking to the crowd about an artist they loved, too. It was incredible. They played for Samford's Homecoming, and there is an interesting reason why. About five years ago, when they were still relatively unknown, they came to Samford and played in the Cafeteria to a crowd of around 150 students. The reception was so warm they came back to a sold out crowd of 3,000. Thats alot for such a small school. Anyway, the show was unspeakably cool, and I saw it with my lady, making it that much better. Awesome weekend.
After the show Jenn saw a friend of hers and we talked for awhile. Jenn's friend's husband is a Luthier, and I have been wanting to get into instrument making for the last few years. Its one of those things I really want to do but know I don't have the time, money, tools, or facilities to carry out. But that changed at least a bit when I talked to this guy. He pointed me to Stewart MacDonald instruments, a website for luthiers and beginners. It has some high quality kits for sale. I have been wanting a Banjo, and this might be a way to afford one and also start making instruments. Time will tell if I have time. I guess we'll see.
Beyond that, its back to the school week. I have more exams and papers coming up, the story (though not a bad one... I love what I do) of my life.
My sister has updated her site! Check it out. It hasn't happened in awhile.
My brother Geoff has redesigned his site, and his wedding pics are all there. Check that out too.
Once last thing... the members of Nickel Creek are all 22 years old. I'm 22 years old. Its crazy to think that. At least to me. I guess you'd have to be me to think how crazy it is. Sigh.

Also, keep Jenn's family in your prayers, thoughts, meditations.

I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

SUPA HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MINE BROTHA DA PEEG!!!!!!!!

Yens. So today (as by the date shown on the entry) is Geoff's birthday. Many celebrations as of late for Da Peeg. Marriage, birthday, Aiplane rides, cake. Yes.

And also I am sorry to Da Peeg for my late Happy Birthday. Today is really the day after his birthday, but Blooger lets you time travel now on the date / time.

Things are really busy here. I went to the Kentuck Festival last weekend, and I'm off to Nickel Creek this weekend. Exciting. But alas, it time for meetings, so I'll writ more later.

Also, pray for the Anderson family (not South Carolina, but Amberly's family). They lost Nanny this last week. I'm fairly sure she is asking God to make some fried Okra right at this very moment :)

I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

Just a few things this post.
First and foremsot, Happy almost Marriage to my brother Peeg and his soon to be wife, Stacy. As I type they are on their way to New Zealand to get all hitched and the like. It will be great to have another sister as cool as Stacy, and Peeg getting married is an awesome thing. Now all of my older siblings are married. Whoa.
Also, the Fiddler's Convention was awesome, as always. And the Chandlers were all jipped in the judging, as always. In my opinion my brother and mom should have won Old Time Singing. And they could have given me a cookie or something for not being as nervous as last year. Thanks to my brother Will for playing with my on stage. It made me not throw up. On Saturday we went to the little house where we always go and jammed up a storm until everyone had to stop what with all the burning of fingers and cramping of arms. It was wonderful. I wish I could extend that time every year. A week would be nice. Yeah, just take a whole day for each category.
Peeg and Stacy and Nick and Josh were all missed, unable to come for reasons ranging from getting married to working to having to camp under a poncho in BDUs. Jenn got to come this year and see the Chandler family do its "bluegrass thing" which was equally as wonderful (her being there, that is). So my weekend was a very refreshing one.
Now this week I have a midterm and a few papers and my brother is getting married. Promises to be another nice few days weather wise as well.
See, I said I've have something else to write about eventually.

Also, has anyone pushed the Mystery Button of Mystery yet? If not, you should. If you have, let me know so I can change it to something mysterious yet again.

I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

So, did you like my post in the Spanish? Haha! Wasn't it grand? Ok, ok, so some of the characters didn't translate. They turned into question marks, as if the computer said, "Hey, I don't know that."
I am sooooo tired. Many readings to do. Posting instead to waste time, in many languages. Ha! Here's another one:

   . 22:03, . , , . , , , !

Wow. I bet that if the Spanish didn't make it, that Russian sure didn't I guess I'll see when I post. I'm sorry for all the boring posting I am doing at the moment. I'll have other stuff to talk about soon besides Grad School. I did go to Nashville this weekend and A Crafts Fair there with Jenn. That was awesome. The weather is finally getting to where I like it... not boiling hot. We also went to downtown Nashville, saw an old fort, a riverboat complete with musical steam organ, and a guitar shop where an awesome guy tried to sell me an awesome Martin D-15 that I couldn't afford, even though it was a steal for a Martin. This weekend is Fiddler's Convention! Hooray.
Wow, this has been a disjointed post. But as Peeg pointed out they can be some of my best! But really I think this one is both boring and full of incomplete translation.

Time to read more.
I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

Hmmmmm... where to start?
Oh yeah, the bachelor party.
Let's see... wow.

Peace,
Joe

Just kidding!
Ha!
Ok, so Geoff's bachelor party was this past friday and Mr. Trey Hoffman put on one awesome shindig.
Nick and I left T-tpwn at about 3pm friday afternoon and, after a drive I would not wish upon my greatest enemies, we got to Dave and Buster's. Man alive what an awesome place. It is a giant resturant/bar/video-game heaven for adults that I could have stayed in all night. We played Virtural reality, shoot-em-ups (yes, all three Chandler's there all went for the same game first... an old west shootin' game with dummies and everything) and ticket-getting games. We played driving games, fighting games, and even some old carnival style horse racing game. It was good times. Nick and I won Geoff enough tickets to get lots of awesome things (we didn't do it all... Chase also got him a huge stash). It was good to see all of Geoff's friends as well. "Shout-outs" to all. Yes. After buying Geoff many drinks and games and all, we went to... um, bed. Yes bed. After singing camp fire songs and roasting marshmellows *** (see asterisk below). A good time was had by all. We went to bed giggling like little boys after all the, ummm, marshmellow roasting, and then scattered the next day. It was great to see Geoff, too. I can't believe he's getting married, but he is marrying an awesome lady and doing it in a way that I always thought he would... on a cliff in some beautiful country far, far away. Yep. So contgratualations Stacy and the Peeg. I hope Stacy's party saturday night was as... ummmm, wholesome.
I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

PS... Will was painfully obvious in his uncontrollable absense from the Bachelor party. He was missed very much, and we all hope that someday we can repeat our camp fire stories and marshmellow roasting with him around. Yens.

***Marshmellow roasting, camp fire stories, and the like refer in a euphamistic way to a little establishment called the Pink Pony, where ladies don't seem to enjoy wearing clothes as much as other places, and in fact you can ask them to not wear clothes for you, if you so choose.***

Wednesday, September 10, 2003

You know, at some point yesterday I took a nap and had a glorious dream that Amendment One had passed, and that Alabama's school systems were going to get that boost they have needed for years, and that the Timber interest would finally start paying their share of property tax.
But then I woke up.
The most progressive, daring, beautiful tax plan as far as I can remember in this state was flattened by an uneducated populus yesterday. Those that stood to gain a huge tax cut from it bowed to the pressure of mud-slinging propoganda and saw nothing but "MORE TAXES" due to the stifling blinders set over their eyes by a state that always seems to cut its own legs off once it gets into a good run.
I stayed here for grad school for many reasons, but one that still surprises me is my faith that this state is on the rise, and that we are finally emerging as a new force in the social arena, cleansed of past mistakes but still rooted in the many things that make us so unique.
But enough with the bitching. It never really had a chance, anyway. Nice to think about, though.
On the upside, it only got up to 90 today. I am really not kidding about that being an upside. It was nice.
I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

WOWIE ZOWIE KA-BOOM!
Yep, I'm updating the old site.
If anyone ever told you graduate school did not take up your time, they indeed do not Sooth-say. I have been at a computer plenty of times, even thought I don't have a connection at home yet. But no time to update. UNTIL NOW!
Well, actually, I really shouldn't be doing this now either. But hey, sometimes you have to take a break from the old research process.
All in all, I am having a blast down here in school. The weather is turning cooler, the ants have subsided (a bit) and Nick and I have taken care of most of the getting-started house stuff that can really eat up time and money. My brother Geoff's bachelor party is the weekend, and the fiddler's convention is not far off. At the end of october Jenn and I are going to see Nickel Creek. So I have a bunch of things to look forward to at the moment, but no real funny stories or anyting. I get up, go to class, go to the library or my office, do lots of interesting work/school/type stuff, go home and sleep. Its a nice routine, and Nick is an awesome roomate. Its good to have a heads up on who you're living with for, oh, 19 years before you live with them in a house.
And really, that is it. Monotonous but fun, with plenty to keep me busy. When other stuff happens, I'll write. Until then, its back to the heart of Gorgas Library. The Journals, they are a'callin'.
I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

If it had been a cartoon, they would have formed a line that read, WELCOME TO TUSCALOOSA as they streamed across the baseboard of my brnad new car. Thats right, this morning on my way to my office (yes, I said my office. More on that later) I came across my very first ant infestation of my stay here in the hot, humid, ant-filled metropolis we all lovingly call "T-Town." They got Molly. My new car. They have defiled her. ARRRRGGGH!!!! These little buggers are opne species that I will not bow to. THEY HAVE NO BUDDHA NATURE! This morning fire ants also got my oldest brother, Will, and caused him to have a very unpleasant time indeed. I figure in the scheme of things, if I fail to attian enlightenment I will come back as a fire ant and be forced to toture those that are like me, allergic as all get out. Anyway, I called many exterminators and finally found a great place that agreed to take care of it and charge me a minimum fee (both of which they did with fast and friendly service!) They are Ace Pest Control and I couldn't find a website. But if you live in this area, use them. They rocked.
Also, I moved to Tuscaloosa this past week. Nick and I are somewhat settled, though there is much to still take care of. I also have an office, where I should be right now. Wow. I have to go!
I'll write more later on my moving adventures!
Peace,
Joe

PS Thanks to all those that helped me move, I'll give you "props" later. Also, pray for Jenn's Grandmother. Or if you don't pray, send good vibes, think of her, etc.

Friday, August 08, 2003

So lately I have developed a tendency to not update my page for awhile and then write what appears to be a short novel about my experiences over the last few weeks. This entry will not be an exception. So now, here is...
JOE'S ADVENTURES IN MANY DIFFERENT PLACES!!!
Over the last two and a half weeks I have been in Birmingham, Anniston, Baton Rouge, Nashville, and Washington, D.C. So many trips on Molly (my new Ion) that she now has over 5,000 miles on her already. Yes my friends, this is a brand new car.
I will start a few weeks ago when I went to Birmingham to help Liz move some beds. We had a great time. It is always fun to hang out with Liz, and every time we move huge stuff I am quite amazed at her all the strngth packed into her relatively not huge self. Kind of like those red-hots you used to get for Halloween, you know?
After that I went with Carl to Baton Rouge to surprise Joe John on his Birthday (it was actually a few days late, but oh well). We did a trip down there and back in just over 24 hours. We ate Cajun food and I might have had something alcoholic to drink. I don't want to alarm you! The morning we left I had to consume lots of Pepto Bismol and Advil. That is all that is needed to explain the time we had. It was great seeing Joe and David. Joe has an old garadge he has dubbed "the Drinkin Shack" that has hockey equipment, a Sega Genesis, Nintendo, and PS2. It was grand.
After that I went up to Nashville to help Jenn move into her new place. The house is beautiful, and the area is right around a cool little strip called Hillsboro villiage. The moving went really smoothly with her parents, and by the end of the trip her dad had offered for me to use the trailor he has to move to T-town. That was a good thing, according to Jenn. We had a few days after that to bum around town and really just be with eachother for the first time in a awhile. Actually, the first time ever that we have had time alone together for any substantial period. And she still likes me!
After exploring Nashville we headed off to D.C. to see my brother Geoff and his fiance Stacy. The drive was beautiful (though a bit long and rainy). When we got there we had days with just Stacy, just Geoff, and just the two of us. We went hiking all arounf D.C., walked to Roosevelt Island, saw museums with Stacy, and generally had an awesome time. On Sunday, it was particularly beautiful. So Geoff, Jenn and I all went hiking at a place called Great Falls. It was breathtaking, really. In more ways than one, as you will see.
We got all loaded up and headed out on the trail. We saw the falls and the trail skirted a huge sheer rock face that paralleled the river. We were working up a good sweat in the heat when we saw a rock formation that looked cool. So we climbed it. After pausing for a drink of water we started to climb back down. I noticed a stream of ants on one of the rocks (for those of you that don't know me I am severly allergic to bee stings and ant bites and a good bit of my time is spent avoiding insects. I have had two major incidents with bees and ants, one of which involved me flat-lining after cardiac arrest long enough for them to think me dead, and the other in which Geoff had to save my life with an Epipen and lots of crazy-fast driving.) so I stepped in the opposite direction to avoid the ants. Geoff had just jumped off the rock, so I followed. As geoff jumped off (sarcasm implied) a rainbow appeared and bunnies came to kiss him. I jumped off afterward IN THE SAME SPOT. Geoff turned around and told me I had something on my left ankle, and that I might want to brush it off. It was a bee. As I stooped a black swarm of death came up around me, stinging me six or seven times. Jenn and Geoff pushed me out of the nest, and we started to run the mile and a half back to the main park. Now at this point I was wondering how well my years of immunotherapy had done as my brain clouded a bit (bee and ant venoms are neurotoxins... being allergic to them amplifies the effects.) As we are running we pass several pissed-off looking hiker, including one guy that said "who is chasing who?" rather stupidly. I, being a little woosy and not really all there, stopped to talk to him. Geoff pushed me on. Later I realized that I was still wearing my pack (smart, Joe!) and stopped and gave it to Geoff. I then started to thank him sincerely (Neurotoxin!) and he pushed me on again. We eventually caught up with Jenn, and Park Rangers, Geoff, and Jenn took over. My job was to keep breathing and stay aware of things. The breathing part was fairly easy (the immunotherapy was working) but my brain was really foggy. I laid in Jenn's lap and she told me not to leave with about the most calm and soothing voice I could imagine. Despite all this it was getting hard to think. Luckily, Geoff brought around by saying "Hey Joe, there is no space on this form for "FAT" under the weight section." I laughed. So did everyone else. A swarm (no pun intended) of people were all around including Park Rangers, Paramedics, and scared (or just interested) park folks. I really just focused on Geoff and Jenn until I got in the Ambulance, where I met one of the coolest Paramedics ever. We talked and I came around after a series of epinephrine and antihistamines. We got to the hospital, waited, and I was released. The immunotherapy worked, and that night we celebrated Geoff saving my life again (Jenn's first time!) with Jack and Coke and Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. All was good. And besides that, it was a nice hike. Really.
So after a day of recovery, Jenn and I left back for Nashville. We drove through the Shannendoah National Park for about 110 miles. We saw Deer, Black Bear cubs, and it was 65 degrees. No lie. It was one of the best drives I've ever had, and the handling and manual transmission of Molly made it all the better. The company was great, too. Jenn and I drove over a thousand miles together over this trip and she never once got close to grating on my nerves in any way. Quite the contrary, she helped calm me down when other drivers were less than exemplary. It was awesome.
So after the parkway we took interstate, tried to stop at a Winery (it was closed) and braved a few more side roads until we got right outside of Nashville. We stopped at a Truck Stop for Bathroom and gas. The public restroom was closed, so I had to go upstairs to the trucker facilities. I got in there and saw one of those "Adult Novelties" dispensers on the wall. Remember "Freedom Fries?" Well, someone had thought it right to replace the word French on the label of this machine to produce an add for "Freedom Ticklers." Ha.
But that is the least of my bathroom adventures. As I was washing my hands, a rather burly man came up behind me. Close behind me. He told me I was pretty and tried to grab me. I stepped away and, being a bit delerious from 12 hours of driving (Jenn can't yet drive a manual) told him frankly, "Hey man, at least buy me a drink first." He looked at me funny and then I told him if he came any closer I'd kick his ass. He was much bigger than I, so I slipped by and Jenn and I left. Quickly. But on the bright side the soap in the bathroom had a pleasant floral scent!
So then I got back yesterday here to Anniston. Now all I have to do is pack. Thats right, orientation for Grad School is next week. A mile a minute, I'm telling you.
THE END (or is it?)... Well, really we all know its not. Sorry.
I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

Happy birthday to the man that helped bring five Chandler children into the world. On this day some years ago (it might be rude to say how many without his permission) my dad was born. Suffice to say that every call he's gotten so far he has said he is turning 112. I am broke, so I bought him a six pack of Guinness Stout and some chips for the day. We rented The Pianist and are now waiting for my younger (can't call him little when he's jumping out of airplanes) brother to call and say he has successfully completed a night jump. Thats about it. Tomorrow I'm off to Tuscaloosa to begin the process of getting ready for Grad school.

Thats about it, really. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY PA!

I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

For fun I added a mystery button of mystery in the right hand side of the page. Try it... IF YOU DARE!!! (Sarcasm intended heavily.)
There comes a time in every person's life when they say to themselves:
"Hey, I'm moving into a new house and the things that I need for that house cost money."
They may then say to themselves:
"Let's get a job!" (to collect money)

Like The Beatles said, "You know I work all day, to get the money, to buy you things."

Recetly, I said these things for myself and went in search of temporary employment. Hilarity ensued.

I found out through a friend of Jenn's that I could make some fast money by parking cars with a local Valt service. The pay supposedly good, and the people would not mind me working for only a month. I like cars. I like to drive cars. Ka-Pow! I thought. Instant job.

So I met with the manager guy on a Saturday to get my uniform and instructions on what to do and where to go. I was to park cars at a wedding reception at the Birmingham Museum of Art that night, and he gave me a shirt, a small carabeener with the company logo and the instructions "don't wreck any cars." Complete on the job training in less than two minutes. Quality.
When I got to the Museum I saw my co-workers. There were about ten guys, all arounf my age. They seemed nice enough. I say and talked the small talk with one of them, you know, stuff like "where do you go to school" and the like. I said I went to BSC. He looked at me, laughed, and said "you mus' beez a BrAINYack, man." Yes, the night was going to proceed like that.
Eventually some cars showed up, and I caught on fairly quickly. It was fun, almost. I drove some nice fancy cars that weren't mine, and was wearing a shirt with epilets even. I'd never done either before, really. So after about ten cars, they stopped coming. Then three huge charter buses rolled up, and all our potential customers jumped out. Every guy there, even me (it was that obvious) groaned as our tip money walked in the door, ready to get drunk and take the bus back. It ended up that about 30 cars came, and ten guys were there to park them. The more experienced guys just got up and left, not even really saying anything to our shift supervisor. After awhile it was just me, a nice guy that knoew alot about Diablo II, and the shift supervisor. We waited and waited and waited. We got there at 6pm. By 11pm I was getting tired of telling drunk girls that I didn't smoke and that they'd have to ask someone else for a light. Then, at about 11:30pm, folks atarted coming out. ALL AT ONCE. The ten guys that had parked 30 cars over a long period were now 3 trying to go get 30 all at once. We ran around like cartoons and fetched everything from BMWs to Merdedes to Volvos and every sort of SUV. You'd think that there would be some money involved with all those cars. Nope. Some people gave us nothing at all. And as I got out of one $80,000 Beamer I went for my phone in a momentary lull in the storm, to check messages. Not there. You guessed it, it fell out in the car. And the guy didn't even tip me.
So we finally got all the cars out, all the drunk people on buses, and all the sparklers (yes, a few hundred drunk people lit sparklers to send off the bride and groom in a TINY space. There was much burning.) cleaned up and were ready to split the tips and go home when we saw that the traffic cones were not picked up. The people that had set everything up had been allowed to go home earlier, and we were conned into the job. We cleaned up the cones. All of the heavy, in-the-middle-of-the-damn-street cones. Then we went and split our tips. It came out to about $25.00 per person for six hours of horrible work. Fast money. Geez.
I then walked wearily to my new car, Molly, who was parked in the middle of 19th North, all alone. All alone except for the crazy man that was jumping up and down like a monkey on my trunk. You read correctly. HE WAS JUMPING ON MY TRUNK LIKE A MONKEY. I don't know if her was trying to brake into it or if he was just crazy, but it was not good. I thought of something to say to make him stop. I finally yelled "HEY!" once I got about fifty feet from the car. He ran away. Instead of trying to call the police on the phone that was now in the front floorboard of the stingy man I had valeted earlier, I just twent back to Jennifer's house.
On the way there I enjoyed the responsiveness of the manual transmission. Random comment I know, but with no hidden meaning. I just really like my car.
When I got there Jenn was on the couch reading and I explained it all to her. Now you've heard it too. And I don't mean to be sappy or cliche or any of those things, but seeing her at the end of that day made things better.
Going back to The Beatles, "Money can't buy me love."

Such was my foray into the land of Valet parking.
I hope everyone is well (and is enjoying their jobs).

Peace,
Joe

WOWIE MCZOWIE!!!!

Wow, where the hell did that come from? I mean, wowie mczowie? C'mon, Joe.

Oh yes, I remember what prompted such a dork-tacular and un-called-for exclamation!

WILL HAS UPDATED HIS WEBSITE!!!

You should go there and read. Its grand. And as of late, rare.
I must go. However, I will post more later.

I hop everyone is well!

Why hallo there! I know it has been a long, long time since I have published anything that had to do with the "goind on" of my life, but the site has been redesigned and much has been going on. I visited both my brothers, bought a new car, and started recording an album. I also sold my old car (Daisy). And bought a new Palm Pilot. So many things. So to start of we will GO BACK IN TIME!!! To when I flew up to Washington to see my brother Geoff and his fiance Stacy.
A few weeks ago I started my super trip by flying from Birmingham to Baltimore. Frank Cribbs was the attendant at the Southwest desk, and it was good seeing him and talking to him. Also I didn't get secondarily screened! That was verrry nice. The flight up there was flawless, and only about 30 people were on the plane. I had about six rows to myself, which I promptly used to stretch out and read and sleep, something that, if you have ever flown on Southwest, is not normally possible. I got up there and Stacy picked me up from the airport and took me to the Saturn of Alexandria dealership where my brother works. We proceeded to have great Chandler brother fun, which consisted of riding around in the company golf cart, going to a bike shop and taking an "extended test drive" in my new car. At this point she had no name, but I knew she was going to be awesome. She' a Green 2003 Ion2 Sedan with tan interior. Supa keen. So Geoff and I had a great day and then went back to his apartment where we played alot of Halo. Over the next coupl of days we hung out in general, ate good food, went on A TOTALLY AWESOME bike trip to Roosevelt Island and played the impossible never-ending game of chess. It was grand. I also got to hang out with Stacy more than I ever really have. She is one coooool cat, I tells ya. We had much fun.
I then drove the new Ion down to South Carolina where I stayed with my brother Will for a few days. He had to work duing the day, so when he was gone I played with Liebten (yes, I got to see her, too! A supa keen trip, yes?) and read Einstein's Theory of Relativity. Or at least I tried. Its one of those things I think you should read, you know? Anyway, when Will was home we cooked awesome food, (I know I have said a few things about food, but I ate SO WELL on this trip) and Jammed. Alot. We jammed like jammin' fools. There was one day when we got in this funk and ended up practicing, recording, and mastering four songs. That is a whole bunch. We were on such a tear that we wouldn't even move or shower or anything (I assure you, we showered that day... just later). From that day came forth the ::MUSIC PLAYS:: CHANDLER BROTHERS DEMO!!!! It has four songs on it that will eventually end up on our album Overt/Covert. They are (in order) Mayor Squirrel, What We Lack, She Said She Said, and Just Like Heaven. Two originals and two covers. We had a great time recording, and I can't wait to finish it. We have a good, clean, almost live sound. I hope other people like it.
So after that I came homw with Will and went to the doctor about my ankles (finally). It turned out so well! Since I am not a competitive ball player anymore, no surgery! I have severe tendonitis in both ankles and will be going through some nifty physical therapy for awhile, but no surgery! HOORAY!
Then Will went to New Mexico to visit Meghan since she is out there working on her Masters. I have been here (in Anniston) dog sitting and attempting to get stuff in order to start thinking about putting together Nick's and my house. My Ion has earned her name. It is Molly. Green, fast, Irish. Thats my new car. She's made in America, but she's Irish. Trust me.
I have also sold Daisy to a very nice young woman with a child, expecting another child, and needs safe, reliable transportation around town. Daisy will serve her well. It may make me cry when she finally goes, but she can be more useful somewhere else. Sad :( Selling her has not been easy, either. Yesterday I delt with out sparkling county government ALL DAY and still had problems to work out in terms of her sale and establishing Molly's Alabama title. But no worries. All will work out.
Last night Jennifer came over in sort of a surprise (I knew about it, but its hard for her to get away from camp and come here) and I cooked dinner for everyone. You watch Will cook for a week and you learn things. We had zucchini, green and black olive sauce over angel hair pasta with a mushroom and spiniach salad with a balsamic vinagerette. It was pretty good! (Which surprised me and pleased everyone else). Jenn got me two books for when she thought I was going to have ankle surgery. She is one thoughtful lady. One was a children's book called I like You and the other was by one of my psych heroes Dan Wegner, called The Illusion of Conscious Will. I've read the first and its wonderful, and the second is now on my reading list. Like I said, she is one awesome lady.
So that brings me to today, if you have read this far. Tomorrow is my mom's birthday, and we'll be cooking out. Good times for all.
Again, if you read ll of this you are a true friend.
Or bored.
I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

Hooray! After a long weekend of trying to do it myself, my webmaster brother Peeg has jumped in the the cyber-rescue and redesigned the page. The result is this new and improved beautiful design! Oh yes, the simplicity is astounding, yet the complexity is hard to ignore (or something like that). What I mean is that its cool! Links are now in a "roll-over" format, meaning that you have to point your mouse to the linked words to see them as a link. So if I mention something that seems pertinent in my posts, look around and you'll probably find a link. Besides that, there should be a nice long post about my trip to DC and South Carolina soon!
I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe
This is WEBMASTER PEEG! I have redesigned the site. The comments should be working again soon...

Friday, June 27, 2003

Still tinkering...
Ok so here's another try... I promise more actual posting soon.
and another...
Ok so now its time for the redesign. The old page has died. I am going to try to do this alone first, and then break down and ask Peeg. We'll see...

Nothing seems to be changing much. I will have to wait on the Webmaster supreme to help. Alas, I will keep looking for a solution in the meantime...
ok.
and the beat goes on...
And yet farther away :(
HA! I grow closer to the solution!
Yes, I know... I am but a novice "webmaster." But perhaps my brother Geoff would appreciate my continued effort?
Still going...
Yep.
And again.
didn't work... tried a different alignment.
Hey this new blog stuff is cool... but my page layout is a bit wonkey, so I tried to fix it. I hope it worked... if it didn't then you'll see more posts about it soon!
Peace,
Joe

Man talk about the changes. I have so many of them lately I'm not quite sure what to do. I graduated college, I am moving into a house with my brother soon, Rocky is in heaven, I am dating someone new, going to grad school, and now... now my beloved Daisy is on her way out, too.
Let me explain. I am currently the proud owner of a 1989 Volvo 244 DL, white with blue interior. She is the supa keenest car in the history of all things, but there is a small problem. Her advanced age (14 years) and mileage (almost 185,000) do not make her the best long distance car in the world. This did not used to be a problem. I went to BSC, and everything was walkable. My parents were only an hour away. My sister was right across town. And I lived with most of my friends. So Daisy just had to be a solid, safe, in-town car. And she was! Supa keen, I tells ya. But now I am off to Gradaute School Land, where you drive to many conferences around the country many times a semester. My parents are quite a bit farther away, and my friends are now as scattered as my family, all over the eastern seaboard and southeast and Scotland (Drew!) and the like (except Nick, we will live together!). So I need a more reliable car. No problem I think! I'll just fix up Daisy! But alas, the list to get her in shape for such constant use is too long and expensive for me to even think about. So in the last few days I have worked out the purchase of a new car with my supa awesome brother/webmather/car salesperson. Peeg is getting me one heck of a deal, and I'm actually going to pay for it all myself, thanks to Saturn's 0%APR for 5 years which I surprisingly qualified for. Saturns are great cars - safe, reliable, and cool. I will, within the week, be the owner of a 2003 Saturn ION 2. It will be green, like this, with tan interior. Take a look at the features. Its quite a change for me, but a good one.
Thanks to the Peeg it will be possible, too. I've gone over it like a bazillion times and am still amazed that I can afford this. But with this financing and the money UA is giving me, I can. Wowie.
So I'm 22. Whoa.
I'm sorry this post has been all mushy and stuff, but change kind of bothers me, in that it takes lots of effort on my part to adapt to it. So yens.
I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

PS. What will happen to Daisy, you ask? Why Joe is donating her to a charity where she will be used by a needy family for safe, reliable, in-town transportation.

PPS. If you have any ideas for Joe's new car, post a comment about it. My dad has already suggested "Kermit." I will not know until I drive her, but its not bad to have ideas before hand. So let me know!

So much has been going on in the last few weeks I hardly know where to start. The most important thing that happened was the death of Rocky, our German Shepard. After a long battle he gave up on Tuesday, and my mom and I went to the vet and held him as they put him to sleep. That day Nick and I buried his body in the far back yard, making the largest contribution by far to our pet cemetary. We buried him with his favorite cow femur, and mama sewed him up in a blanket. Nick and I got about 2 feet deep before hitting bedrock, and so we surrounded the area with rocks and piled cured oak firewood over the dirt. Tomorrow we are looking at filling in the gaps between the wood with concrete and smoothing it flat. He is already sorely missed.
On a much brighter and earlier note, I attended the APS conference in Atlanta a week and a half ago. Man alive it was grand. I saw so many of the people that I have been readng about for the last few years. I heard them speak and got to interact with tons of other people that are interested in the same things I am. I even saw one of them (whose name I will not mention for fear of being sued) drunk off her butt coming back into the hotel one night. Among many others I saw Daniel Schacter, Elizabeth Loftus, and Anne Treisman. All the talks were incredible. It was also the first time I was identified with the University of Alabama. It was on my name tag. Talks during the day and Irish Pubs at night. It was a grand time.
I suppose the next major adventure type thing was the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert the following week. Man, they rock. And I really mean that. Alot. There was a point in the show when Flea walked out onto stage on his hands. They sound great live, and Snoop Dog even opened for them. He smoked much of the "wacky weed" and sang a whole song that consisted of the words "What are we going to do? Get high, get drunk, and fuck." That was the whole song. Sometimes he said, "ATL?!" Yep. The Chili Peppers mostly played stuff from By The Way with a few older songs mixed in. They came on for one encore and played Under the Bridge. We all banged on the bleaches for at least 5 minutes to get them to come back out. Then we went to a gay bar because all the other bars were closed on Sunday night after 12. It was not as grand as the concert, but what can you do? They didn't even have Bushmills. Urrrrggggh. The next day I drove home and slept. Alot.
Yesterday I went to Camp Sumatanga to see Jennifer do what she does during the summer. She runs a retreat-type camp for High Schoolers and Pre-teens. It was a beautiful day. I got there at 5:30am and we hiked up the mountain that the camp sits on and had breakfast in an open-air chapel. The rest of the day I followed her around and tried to be as helpful as possible. By the end of the day I read a prayer at the Vespers service they had, and helped Jennifer lead a discussion group on Peacemaking. It really was a fun day. She has a great open mind about the religion and such, and it reflected well in what I otherwise thought might have been something akin to Catholic Youth Day at Six Flags. But I was very pleasantly surprised.
Today, Friday the 13th, I went to buy a filing cabinet. As I was paying for it the check-out lady asked me if I was superstitious. I said yes, sort of. She pointed up and I saw that I was purchasing this filing cabinet in aisle 13 on friday the 13th. Peeg told me not to put any important documents in it. To tell you the truth, with my luck, I probably should return it and trade for another one. Also, my palm pilot died. That means one of my arms is now cut off, effectively. My cell phone was in it, all my appointments, addresses, etc. Luckily it is baked up on Stan (my computer) and can be restored to another. But I may be purchasing a lap-top fpr grad school (it is highly recommended by many people) so that may replace Joe's love affair with the handheld computer. Speaking of Grad school, I got an email today from the director of my program saying that my office was ready to be moved into. Whoa. I have an office. Its Gordan Palmer 190 for those of you that attend or have attended the 'Bama. Orientation is the 13th of August, and Nick and I move in to our house on the 12th. Stuff is about to get crazy all over again.
Sorry this post is solong, but I had much to talk about. If you've made it this far, you rock.
I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

Also, I changed the marquee. It is some wisdom from Nick.
HOLY CRAP! The cycle is complete. It started with da Peeg, then Will, then me, then Nick. Now beyond all odds, LIZ HAS A BLOGSPOT! I have added a link to it in the links section. Go there. Read. Be amazed.
Peace,
Joe

PS. Liz is my very nice sister. Yens.
HOORAY! I just read a comment by the Peeg (Oh great webmather!) that he has fixed my page. He done fixed it reeeeeel guud. THANX PEEG!
peace,
Joe
Howdy. Heads up on a few things:
-Sorry the page is still messed up. I've emailed blogger and looked at the code myself and can find no reason for it. We will see...
-Sorry I haven't posted in so long, but there are a few things I will be talking about soon, like the APS conference in Atlanta and the Chili Peppers concert, also in Atlanta.
-Third and most importantly, pray for my family dog, Rocky. Or meditate, think about, send good waves toward, whatever you personally do. He is dying and its been tough for everyone here. If you are a family member and you have not heard about this, I really do apologize for the lack of communication, its been crazy here at home. I will call you (directed toward Peeg and Will).

As a result of all this, this too will be a short post.

I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

Wow.
Its been a few days since I posted, but a ton has happened. I shall enumerate:
1) I graduated college. Yep, its Joe the Alumnus, now. Friday Mama, Daddy, Peeg, Nick and Aunt Gayna came to the Capping Ceremony, a BSC tradition where one (or tow in my case) special people symbolically give you your mortar board and put it on your head. It was wonderful. Mama and Daddy capped me. The next morning was Baccalaureate at First Methodist downtown. Daddy came, and the liberal arts education that I received became even more apparent with the variety and inclusion involved in the service. Bishop Morgan gave a beautiful sermon on being an "amateur in all things" in the original sense of the word. That is, in the sense that an amateur does things for the sheer love of doing them. Then Saturday morning was graduation, and all my blood siblings were there along with Mama and Daddy and Aunt Gayna. When I got my degree my family yelled, mostly in the Rocky voice. I looked up and made a face at them. I found where they were sitting by hearing Daddy cough. My brothers and sister know what I'm talking about. Then at the end I danced to the processional music, and many parents frowned at me. So I just swung my honor cords instead. They still frowned. Oh well. We all went to the reception and then to Mexican food. It was supa keen in more ways than can be said.
2) I moved out of the dorm. Man alive, I didn't know I could fit so much stuff in that tiny room. I have accumulated more junk in the last four years than I really knew about, and it showed when Nick helped move me out. After a few car loads earlier in the week, we filled his 940 and my 240 with no problem. Lots O' junk. And I've spent almost all of today unpacking it and setting up my room for the next two months.
3) I became the proud papa of two lab rats. Yep, Ratagast and Little Belle are living at the Chandler household until I move to T-town. They are Long-Evans strain hooded lab rats, and they rock. Little Belle is Jennifer's, and she'll get her back at the end of the summer.
Ok, that's about it. I said it was a lot, but really just three things. I'm going to go and clean some more. To all those that gave me presents for graduation, thank you many many many times. To Meghan, I hope you are feeling better. To my family, I can't wait until we get together all at once again.
I hope everyone is well
Peace,
Joe

Just added a link to Marcus' homepage. He is a poet and supa cool guy. Read his stuff. READ IT!!!!!

Peace,
Joe
I just potentially finished my last college assignment ever. It was a paper on the process theology of Alfred North Whitehead and how it can tie together the metaphysics of Buddhism and the practice of Christianity. I am tired. I am almost done with college. Six, oops I mean five days and Joe is movin' on up in the world. Or at least south-west, to Tuscaloosa. I have a few more details to take care of, but, depending on the decision of one professor about another potential paper, I might just be done. I think that deserves a woo-hoo.

WOO-HOO.

Yes. Also, here is a Dr. Bronners quote of the day:
DILUTE DILUTE DILUTE!

Need sleep.

I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

What do Bob Dylan, Nickel Creek, Bela Flek and Willie Nelson all have in common? They are all performing at City Stages this weekend, and I'm a'gonna be there. Liz and Josh and Nick are also coming, and we will be having "the blast." Yes. I am so pumped about seeing Nickel Creek that I had a dream about it. Not much of a dream, just me at City Stages watching Nickel Creek. But still, it was a good dream.
Nick and I found a house! Its a two bedroom, 1 bathroom place in a great Neighborhood about ten minutes from campus. Its in great shape, with brand new siding and a huge living room and the like. It has all the "amenities": W/D hook-ups, dishwasher, central heat and air, monkey slaves, etc. Well, maybe no monkey slaves, but everything else I said! It should make a great house. Its in a neighborhood that is mostly middle-class families and owners. In fact, ours will be one of the few rental houses anywhere really near there. The landlord is a private owner that seems to be a great guy. He showed us a bunch of houses the other day after he had already gotten off work, around 5pm or so. He was very honest about the condition of the houses and stuff. We move in August 1st.
I took my only in-class exam this morning. It was computer science (practicing for the Webmathering! HAHAHAHA!!!) If you want to see a very pnutbu-funny freshman picture of me, look at the class roster section. Yeah, I really did part my hair like that.
Now all I have is two papers due, one saturday and one monday. Then for all intents and purposes, I will done with college. Yep, pretty crazy stuff.
I'm at work, and my first customer of the night just walked in. Off to the coffee and desert makin'.
I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

Here's a post that was supposed to be up yesterday, but blogger was having the technical difficulties:

I've started to post like three times today and stopped becasue I didn't know quite how to do it without sounding really supa hokey, but I think now that I am relatively exhausted my propensity for the implementation of superfluous verbage has been quashed. So today was my last day of college class. And my last day to run participants in the Harbert lab. Its just now starting to hit me that I will be out of college soon. Very soon. I have two papers and one exam left, but no more class.
Graduation is twelve days away. ::saying in the very surfer man voice:: WHOA.
I am the very tired. Tonight, the sleeping will commence. Then tomorrow Nick and I will look at more houses, then I will study, then go to work. I don't know why I just told you my daily routine. But lack of sleep makes the world funny and full of monkeys.
I'm going to have a beers and go to sleep.
Hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

Quick post for a little business...
As most of you all know Nick and I are looking for a house for the fall now that I will be going to UA for grad school. I think I may have found something, and I am asking those of you that read my site for your opinion. For those that are not familiar with Tuscaloosa, you can tell me if you have any bad vibes and whatnot. For those of you that are familiar with the T-town, please comment on the neighborhood (that is, whether Nick and I will get robbed and the like if we live there). Any and all help is welcome on our journey to house-land. The website where I found it gives each property a name, and this house is apparently called "Changes in Latitude." Ok, I'm cool with that if the house is ok. Thanks everybody!
Peace,
Joe

Tornadoes. Tornadoes. Then more tornadoes. The weather here has been, shall we say, tempestuous here as of late, and it doesn't look like its getting any better. The past few days walking outside has been a bit like walking in soup. Nasty thick soup that sticks to your face and head and clothes. But, at the same time, its cool! I was walking down here to the lab and a huge clap of thunder sounded. It was so loud and so close that it made the bells in the belltower vibrate. It sounded like sort of a wah-wah sound. So that is good. Also the rain is always fun to look at.
Nothing really exciting except the weather. I'm plugging along to the end of the semester, and each day I get something else to fill out about graduation. Nick and I are looking at more houses this saturday, but I may have found one already (if it doesn't turn out to be a dump). The guy said he only rents to grad students and families, but when I mentioned Nick he was Ok with it. He said something like "An Army man, eh? My brother is in the Army. That's just fine, just fine!" Its a two bedroom with a garage and yard with central heat/air and the roof was recently re-done. Sounds promising, anyway.
Well that is about it. On to more of the workin'.
I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

Upon more contemplation I just realized how awesome it is going to be living with my little brother in a house. Wow. I think I will now just think about how much that is going to kick ass and use it to calm the odd confusion I am feeling about most other things. Yes. AWESOME!
Also, Torrie will be living with us.
She's a cat.

Peace,
Joe
Four papers, two exams, one huge experiment, twenty days. That is how much of the college I have left. Hmmmmm. Sort of bizarre. I'm treating it like any other end of the semester by being alternately lazy and productive, giving up at the amount of work and then getting all pumped up to tear through it. But every once in awhile I think: I will have no more semesters like this, at least here. I'm sure grad school will be like one long end of the semster, but the fact that when I move out of the Hanson (my dorm) I won't be moving back in is just foreign at this point. Nick and I looked at several houses yesterday and found some great possibilities. I have to call some folks tomorrow to inquire about pets (Torrie is coming with us) and prices and the like. But then thats it. We'll move around the 1st of August so I can get settled and on the 'Bama payroll, and then its time for the Grad school. The times, they are a'changin.'
Besides that nothing is really going on. I have to work at a frenetic pace for another two or three weeks, and then I can rest, sort of. Right after graduation we're going to the APS convention to be all psychological. But then I can relax. I think I might go to the beach with some friends. And I will definitely be taking a trip to see Will and Meghan and Peeg and Stacy. That is a given. Hopefully I can just use a few weeks to do it all driving.
I hope everyone is well!
Peace,

And then clean up the spelling.
I had to rearrange the quotes.
I have added some quotes from Mr. T and The Buddha to help illustrate their complex relationship. Enjoy!
Peace,
Joe
I'm sitting down in the basement of Harbert in the good old G-16 lab realizing that we are conducting a full-fledged experiment with two weeks left in the school year. "Cutting it close" does not even describe this. I have actually considered setting up a cot in the old rat lab so we can rest inbetween subjects we can sleep. This place has become the home of me, Caroline, and Michelle. Next week we'll use the data we are collecting now to construct another experiment that will yield more data to be analyzed. BUT I do suppose this is getting me ready for grad school, and if I have partners at Alabama that are anything like I have here, this won't be a bad life at all.
I added a link to a Volvo collector's site. If you like Volvos at all you should go see it. There are European models on the page that I have never heard of, including the very odd 480GLT sprorts car. Take a look.
Ok, time to run more subjects.
I hope everyone is doing well!
Peace,
Joe

You might notice that the scroll now says "Monkey Knife Fight."
Just a change of pace.

Back to normal!
That is the story here in the land of Joe. After being gone with the horrible flu for about ten days I am back at school and nothing has changed. I had a nice full day today and several are on the plate for the next few weeks. Come to think of it, there will be no "light" days until I graduate. I gave a presentation on artificial intelligence today with Ryan, and we used a picture of me and Mr. T created on a computer as an example of the wonders of computers. Mr. T was wearing a sombrero and looking at me. I was smiling (it was my freshman picture from BSC). Noone laughed as much as we thought they would, except us. We laughed. We almost used a music clip from the Beastie Boys' "Intergalactic" because it had a robot voice, but we did not go that far. Unfortunately.
Plus I have resolved my motivation issues with school. Whenever I think "you graduate in three weeks, Joe. Why work?" another part of me now says "what's wrong, sissy-Joe-can't-do-any-work-man? Are you going to cry? Is it too hard for you? Awwwww..." I then sometimes actually start fighting with myself in what turns out to be some mild slapping between my two hands. Then I stop becasue people stare when you talk to yourself in a threatening manner and then hit yourself. But, problem solved!
I'm off to study. Tomorrow I have a computer science test... the quest continues!

Dr. Bronner quote of the day: Essene, Chinese and other birth control methods must reduce birth or Easter Isle type overpopulation destroys God's Spaceship Earth!

I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

It worked! Now I have tried to center it. (Hence the post)
CYA!
Hallo. I am much less of "the sick" now and will be going back to school tomorrow to finish up the year. As of yesterday it was exactly one month until I graduate college. May 24th, she is a'comin' soon.
Nothing really exciting happening except that I am NOT running a fever and my liver has begun the slow but steady recovery process from all the damn fever reducers and such.
I have tried to add a scrolling marquee to below the links. I don't know if it works or why it should be there, but I must do something with the knowledge I am garnering from my intro to computer science class, no?
I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

Hallo.
Here are some numbers for you: 101,102,103...
THOSE are the temperatures my body has seemed to think are the best to be the last six days. Geez. Who knew the bodies could be so dumb sometimes.
Today I am posting from home on the first day I can sit up on my own for more than no seconds. The severe flu came and killed the easter bunny and tried to get me and my parents, too. My body isn't even supposed to be able to run a fever. Ha! Fooled him!
But anyway, I was posting becasue I am happy at the nice day and celebrated with a walk from the bed down to the computer. Tonight I may even try to go to my Phi Beta Kappa initiation. I had to miss Honors Day yesterday, but the Buddhist side of me says thats good.
I suppose I have no real stories, though. Last night I had a dream that Nick and I were crop dusters with huge cartoon eyes that used chocolate chips as the pesticide. I guess it could've been the Codiene cough medicine. Maybe.
I'm off to more of the sleepin'.
I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

Two things today:
1) Tonight I watched Michael Jordan play his last game. 15 points in about 28 minutes, with one nice dunk. The amazing part was the atmosphere of the fans, fellow players, coaches, even the officials. It was truly an awesome thing.

2) More importantly, I went to Tuscaloosa with my Dad today to see my brother Nick get some awards from his ROTC corps. His was named most Outstanding Freshman Cadet and awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship for showing excellence in leadership and academics. I am so proud of him. It was both wonderful and scary to see him in his uniform; my little brother is in the Army. Be careful, stoop-o.

I'd be more detailed, but I have to run to work. Nothing says I won't update there, though.

I hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

This post is to see if some of my changes have worked. Apparently it only updates if I post.
Also, this.
So bored. Oh wait! I am off! Now I can go do super fun things like.... ummmm... sleep. Yes, I will sleep.
Also, I would like to extend my condolences to Da Peeg for Kate's sickness.
Kate is his car.

And yes, we are having slow business tonight.
Oh, and another few things. This week I recieved two interesting letters in the mail. One was from Oxford, accepting me to their masters program in Experimental Psychology. That was very nice. The other was a rejection letter from Emory. This is funny becasue they made me an offer a long time ago and I respectfully declined. So I guess they decided to not accept me after they accepted me and then I didn't accept them. Academia is a funny place. That's it.
Peace,
Joe
It's saturday and I be all up in tha' Cella.
I spent last night at home hanging out with my parents and Nick, and that was very nice. More my parents than Nick, because he went to a concert for most of the day. Mama and Daddy and I went to Los Mex and then bought the Harry Potter video and watched it. Rocky jumped on Ma. All in all it was quite the relaxing evening. I got to hang out with my grandparents for awhile, too. My grandad's beard has been trimmed, bringing it from super Santa Claus to just plain santa claus. Sometimes I can't believe that grandma is the age she really is. If she were on a sitcom, she'd be "the spunky old lady." I slept alot. So nothing really exciting, but I wanted to update. Here's my Dr. Bronner's quote:

"SPACESHIP EARTH!!!"

Also, I have been learning a littel HTML in the computer science, and I tried to add links to Stacy's site and Alabama's site. I don't know when they process those changes, but they should be there soon if I did it right.
I hope everyone is well!

Peace,
Joe

Ok, so I promise that I thought of it independently, but here is a page about Mr. T and the Buddha. And Mr. T is commsioned by Buddha to fight a Monkey! WHAT A FRIEKIN BEAUTIFULLY PERFECT THING!!!!!!! I mean, really. My page is all about this, without the whole fighting a monkey bit. Go see it. SEE IT!!!!

I hope everyone is well,

Peace,
Joe
Three things:

ONE: Supa Congratulations to Geoff and Stacy on setting a date (for getting married, that is). October 10th my 2nd oldest brother is gettin' hitched to a supa keen lady. I could not be more happy about how they're doing it either. I never did imagine Peeg getting married in a traditional way (that is a compliment, I assure you). And the party when they get back must be rockin'. ROCKIN!
TWO: I have decided to start putting a daily Dr. Bronner's quote from his famed Magic 18-in-1 Hemp Peppermint Pure-Castile Soap since I am such an avid and loyal user of said soap. DISCLAIMER: although these quotes are funny and the soap gets you cleaner than heaven, I don't necessarily endorse or believe in what crazy Dr. Bronner says. That being said, the quote of the day is:
Yet, if absolute-unselfish I am not for me, I'm not but classless, raceless, starving masses, never free nor brave!
Three: Also, taking a page from Stacy's blog, I would like everyone to know what it is I am currently listening to. So:
I am mostly listening to Flogging Molly and Coldplay right now. Specifically, Drunken Lullabies and A Rush of Blood to the Head, respectively. Thanks to David for introducing me to the Flogging Molly. Rock does not begin to describe what they do.

I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

Ok, so here are a few stories about spring break AND BEYOND....
We drove down on a saturday and it was a beautiful day. Note that for the entire trip it was gorgeous. 70 to 75 each day, no clouds, clear ocean. On the way down I talked to Amberly and she said she was not well. After she told me about her symptoms I told her to go to the ER. She did, and I spent much of the night talking to her as she went in and out for tests. She is ok now, and for that I am thankful.
After I found out all was cool with Amberly, my friends threw me a rockin' birthday party which included Drew bowing in front of me with a cake (it was D-LISH) and a bottle of Bushmills Black Bush. What a gift! As of now it is about half empty after the entire trip. It is supa keen.
The next day we went to the beach and generally had a good time. That was the pattern until the next night, when we went to a pub called Mcguire's. There I had (among other things) a drink called an Irish Wake. After a few of the, umm, shall we say, "fine drinks" I decided it would be a good idea to go down and talk to the guy playing live music. His name was Bill Kavanaugh, and he was quite good. So good was he that I bought a CD. It also could have been becasue I was (parents, don't look) drunk. Maybe. We proceeded to talk about where he was from and the fact that if I was ever in Shannon or near Donegal I should come see him. He was nice. Then we went home and I proceeded to sit down and watch the room spin. Then my guitar was in my hands! Then I fell asleep. Yep, the Irish came out in me that evening.
The next day we played a bit of football and one of my friends broke his toe. So someone got hurt besides me. But, as my dad put it, it was the "Joe effect." If I don't get hurt someon near me will.
The day we left my friend Joe and I decided that we needed to lighten the load for the way home becasue there was really not much room in the car. So we had some beer. At 9 in the morning. In the shower (not together). It was grand fun. DISCLAIMER: I was not driving home, nope. We were so concerned with giving the instruments proper room (two guitars and a cello) that Joe road with my guitar in his lap and I had to scoot my chair up until I was eating my knees for the cello. Joe's guitar sat inbetween the seats. But we all got home ok and it was a great time.
The day we got back Joe came home with me and Drew came over and we all ate pasta. (Note: this is incredible seeing as how Victor tried to kill us with pasta the night before.) Then we decided "hey, we've never been to The Peerless in Anniston, let's go." So we got there and paid 4 dollars cover for a, ummm, band. We settled into some pool when this lady who looked a bit (sarcasm here) older than us approached Joe. She proceeded to ask Joe "do you come from money?" and then hang all over him. Drew and I looked over and saw Joe looking (more sarcasm) a bit uncomfortable, and so I went over to help. She proceeded to ask my name (Bob I thought, or perhaps Pepe?) but Joe Chandler came out and I was over. She knew my dad and proceeded to adhere herself to me, very drunk, very touchy, and very not cool. As Drew and I tried to finish our game fast she knocked over my Killian's and said something like "ohw gaed, eye ayam serrorry. i'll buyey yew anober beers!" At that point Drew and I "finished" our game by putting all the balls in the pockets and tried to walk out. As I was on my way out the parent's of one of my friends from high school came up, ummm, intoxicated and asked if I was done with the pool table. I said something like "uhhhhh" and the follwed Drew and Joe as they ran out the door. Just then I was clasped on the shoulder by the young lady that had bought me a beer and asked "wheres is yew gwan? i's gotted yew a beers!" I told her politely that she could have it and we ran away. Later on we went to Drew's and hung out. There Joe said to me, "Anniston is scary." Indeed.
And that is pretty much it, without going on and on. I had a great spring break, and now its time to work for the month and a half of school I have left. For all you folks that read this site, I graduate May 24th at 3pm in the afternoon at Boutwell Auditorium. My school is small so we need a big place to do the graduating. I will be calling for invitations soon. Real invitations are expensive, so I will call on a weekend when my cell phone is free.
And that is all for the today.
I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

Thursday, April 03, 2003

Hallo. I am sorry I have not posted in a bazillion years, but...
1) I went to spring break
2) When I got back I found out that my research group had been accepted to a conference, and I was to represent the group by giving a talk. The catch is... THE TALK IS TOMORROW! Yep, we have been working nonstop on this thing since we got back. I am working on 2.5 hours of sleep and lots o' the coffee. I actually have the lecture in my hand right now. Scary. So I promise soon that I'll post with funny spring break stories.

Also, I formally accepted Alabama's offer for Grad school this week. Too many good things all in one place to turn down. I start August 19th workin' on the ol' doctorate.

I hope evryone is well and has had more sleep than me.

Peace,
Joe

Twenty-two does not seem like such a large number until you have spent that many years on the earth. Yup. Today ol' Joe turns 22 on the 22nd.
I had a great night with my parents and Nick and one of his army buddies. We ate Mata's and had draught and then ate cake and had champagne. All in all a very nice night. I got to talk to Will for longer than I have in awhile. We talked about the war and guitars and all sorts of things. It makes me realize how much I miss hanging out with my family members (insert audience sigh here) and that I really need to get up the South Carolina and D.C. way.
I might actaully have an opportunity to do the D.C. part very soon. The other day I was picking up the phone to accept Alabama's offer when George Washington called. After seeing my fancy Phi Beta Kappa update they upped their offer and asked me not to accept Alabama until I had a chance to visit GW and look over their offer in full. Geez. It is really a disembodiing (is that a word?) experience to have two Grad school pretty much fighting over you. I keep waiting for someone to call and say, "yes, we just realized that you are Joe, and are sorry but we have to take our monies back. Nice try." But it hasn't happened yet. And so I keep ridding the Grad school ride, hoping that an easy answer comes and I can stop blushing so much and stuttering when fancy folks give me compliments. As I said, geez. Maybe they will figure it out that I am the Joe that once tried to hot-glue an oven handle back on after I broke it off. Oh well.
Besides that I am off to the sunny beach with my friends fro spring break. I'll be there for a week, so probably no posts. I know, I know, but it will be ok. I promise.
I hope everyone is well. Keep your thoughts / prayers / energy with those that are risking and losing their lives on both sides of this war. Noone deserves death at the hands of another human being.

Peace,
Joe

Awesome.

Also, THIS.

Peace,
Joe
I WOULD LIKE TO START THIS POST WITH A DISCLAIMER: I love myself, for that is a healthy thing. But I do not love myself as much as this post is going to sound like I do.
Over the last few weeks I have been hearing from grad schools and the like, and at the same time I have realized, "hey, Joe... you still have a lot of work to do at 'Southern." Consequently I have been what some may call "busy" and others may call "swamped." So I have decided to use this little forum to update my family and friends on my Grad School situation, so as not to sky-rocket my cell phone bill ( I spent much money on it during my grandfather's illness this last week). So here is the breakdown, folks:
This week I was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and fancy-pants honor society that makes my resume much nicer.
Two weeks ago I was accepted to Emory University, and offered full tuition and fees plus $5,000.00 a year to teach.
This week I was accepted to George Washington University and offered tution and fees plus a pending aid packeage to be determined after I fill out more paper work and...
After being accepted to Alabama a few weeks ago and being offered a nice scholarship there (full tuition and fees plus $12,500 a year) I was awarded a Dean's Merit Scholarship to 'Bama yesterday worth an extra $6,000 a year. That means full tuition, fees, and $18,500 a year as long as I stay in "good academic standing."
So that is it. I promise I will try to call all my relatives this weekend when my phone is free. And just to reiterate, this was not a braggin' page. But I did get a bit link-happy, no? Just to take the focus off me a bit, here is a random fun super happy link to follow. Enjoy!
I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

If you do not like the idea of copious amounts of mucus, do not read on. If you do, you should talk to someone about that, in a professional capacity. If you don't like it but can stand it, read on.
Thursday I went to a movie with Amberly and we had a great time (we saw Daredevil). After the movie she had messeges on her phone from Carl and Drew saying to call my Dad. I did, and he had some bad news. My grandfather was in the ICU in Anniston. He told me to wait until friday morning and then come home so I could help in any capacity I could. So I waited. I didn't sleep much, but I waited. And friday I went.
First, so as not to cause any undue alarm, grandpa is ok for now. The diagnosis is pneumonia, possibly chronic. But that is not so bad as the congestive heart failure that was on the table for awhile. And he's at home. Everyone feels Grandma can take better care of him there since they have such a rhythm there. So he's ok. Back to friday.
I went home and waited with Mama, Aunt Beth, Aunt Pat, and Grandma and we had fish (friday Catholics!). Grandpa was moved to a normal room that afternoon, and over the next few days he steadily improved. I stayed both nights with Grandma, watching him and helping the over-worked, understaffed, underpaid nursing staff. So all is ok at this point, but I still haven't gotten to the reason for my gross disclaimer above.
As I understand it on thursday night Grandpa started having trouble breathing. After awhile lots of very thick mucus started draining out of his mouth, and he couldn't seem to cough any of it out himself. So Grandma had a quick and ingenious idea: she got the turkey baster and started cleaning out his mouth and throat. It worked and probably saved his life by buying enough time for the ambulance and Dr. Zinn to get there. So there is the not-so-in-order story of this weeekend. I didn't sleep much until today, so I am sort of wonkey. I'm going to go back to work and a group meeting now.
I hope everyon is well!
Peace,
Joe

Ok. I was checking my post from earlier today, and I had a comment! I was so excited, but much to my dismay, it was not a positive one. A friend of mine simply pointed out that I had not written about the Inugural Danball game on Sunday by posting the comment "Dan Ball????!!!!!" It made me sad, and made me think that all good things come in time, which all folks in the world should know. So, in due time and not by purposeful omission, here is a brief synopsis of the 1st ever BSC Danball game this past Sunday:
Joe Chandler, Joe John, Dave Whiten, David Hooge and Carl Wise were in attendance.
There was about a hour or so game of two-on-two with a rotating goalie. It was dark with no lights except one that kept flickering on and off. Every time the light was on it was a "power play." Every time the ball was put into play we yelled "the hog is in the sack" and everytime the goalie wanted people to back off the box he yelled "grease pit!" It was great. Still a little amorphous and non-rule oriented, but it has begun! This sunday hopefully we will have more people and light. Noone really knows who won, as the rotating goalie sort of changed the teams up every so often. Much fun was had by all.
So the moral of the story is, if you want your friend to post about something, ask them to. Do not use the comment script for evil. It is a tool of the light.
I hope everyone is well,
Peace,
Joe
I would like to announce that I am not updating my site from the cellar today, though I may do more later (since I am working tonight). Nope, I am here in my room, thinking about what I can put on my website to communicate with my family and friends. Well a few things have happened since my last significant post, and they mostly involve graduate school (what else is new). So here they are:
Last friday I visited the Cognitive department at Alabama and stayed the night with Nick. I went to lunch with some of the faculty and a first year student, then saw many of the labs, then went to a research talk, then went and had a few beers with the grad students. All in all it was an awesome time. It is a relaxed department with many smart people having a good time. Sounds like a nice place to be for free for the next four years, you know? After having a very nice time with them Nick and I had tubby eating time with Cadbury Creme eggs and cookies and Chinese food from some place called Lai Lai. It was glutton-licious. We hung out with one of his army buddies for awhile and then went to sleep. I had to go back the next day for Honors Day here at 'Southern, but it was nice to see Nick for the time I did.
The thursday before that I got a call from Emory that was ohh so nice. I didn't call anyone becasue it is a conditional acceptance, but here's what they want to give me with it: full tutiton plus fees for tenure. I said, "that's great!" and then they asked me if anyone else had accepted me. I said yes, and detailed to Alabama offer to them. They said something like, "Well, yes, ummm... we are meeting again tomorrow, and we'll consider this an amendment to your application and get back to you later." So they called me back on friday and offered me a $5,000.00 per year stipend to teach stats. It was very flattering and wonderful, but it still pales to Alabama's offer. So at this point, Emory may be out of the running. And I am telling everyone this at once so I can keep my cell phone bill down, so, (if they care), tell your friends!
Ash Wednesday is today. I have had tofu, carrots, and milk, plus some vitamins. Class and work have kept me from mass unfortunately, but the fasting makes me feel the day even more than the ashes, so I think me and God be cool. Yeah, we cool.

I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

He just turned 40 and he's averaging 30+ in the last five games. He played yesterday with an injury that would put most folks out for a few games, and he still did this. Wow. Anyway, more later.

Joe

Tuesday, February 25, 2003

First off, I would like to say a supa happy 60th Anniversary to my Grandparents. We celebrated with a mass at their house and lots of barbecue. And grandpa has a Santa Cluas beard now. It was awesome!
Also...
ANOTHER HOORAY! Here is an update about the Alabama offer. Keep your pants on folks, it supa keen. I can tell you it certainly knocked MY socks off. Well not really, but maybe just my pretend socks of excitement.
Monday Dr. Roskos-Ewoldsen called my dorm room as I was on my way back to Birmingham from Anniston and Grandma and Grandpa's Anniversary. I was talking to Carl when he said that she had called, and right after that I was talking to her on my cell phone! She was verrrry niiiice, and then made me the following offer: Full tuition and fees for tenure, plus $12,500.00 a year with the possibility of an extra $5,000.00 a year for a school-wide Dean's Merit scholarship. They would support me all 12 months out of the year, which means I would be supported during the summer and wouldn't have to get another job, just research at the lab. I just kept saying things like "oh great" and "that's wonderful, really" which I really meant... but I was so, ummmm, how shall we say, overtaken - that I'm sure I sounded like an idiot or ass or idiot-ass. But she was great, and I proceeded to call every member of my family on the way back to B'ham. I'm going to visit on friday to hang out with Nick and meet the faculty. It should be supa fine. They said we'd go to lunch and a research talk. Then she asked me "do you drink alcohol?" and I said, "ummm, yes." Then she said we would get a few beers later that night after the talk with some of the current grad students! It was grand. All-in-all, a red letter week!
And, as I was talking to Will about the good news, his digital Tascam came in, right as we were on the phone! That as well is supa keen, and soon we will record the rockinest album ever! Rock stars here we come! Have fun Will!
So thats it. I am purty darn excited I tell you.
I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

Sorry, I have to do it. To often some might say, this has become a forum for Jordan news. And here we go again. Tonight Jordan became the oldest player ever to score 40+ points in an NBA game (43 against the Nets in a win). You should read about it.
Plus, Alabama did not call me back today. Shane says that is probably becasue something happened and they couldn't meet, and that I shouldn't worry. Which I'm not. I would jsut like to hear from them, you know? Oh, and while they're at it, they should give me A MILLION DOLLARS!!!!! MWOO-HHOOOO-HAHAHAHAH!!!!!!
Um, yens. Sorry.
Ok, I'll write more later. Look at the Jordan story. LOOK AT IT!!!!
Hope everyone is well.
Peace,
Joe

Tuesday, February 18, 2003

HOORAY! I finally have some Grad School news to tell folks about. Today I talked to the director of the Cognitive Psychology program at Alabama and she told me some verrry niiice things indeed. Basically, leaving out the details that made me oh so uncomforatble (has anyone ever told you nice things about yourself only for you to think, "hmmm that person sounds great... when do I meet them?") but were in the end quite flattering, Dr. Roskos-Ewoldsen (an awesome name - I KNOW!) told me that they would make me a formal offer this friday and were just trying to decide where to pull "funding", which means, according to my friend and prof Shane, they are deciding what fellowship to award me. Normally they don't notify people until early April, and Dr. ROSKOS-EWOLDSEN (cool name, really) said this is how Alabama "snags the top students" or something like that, by offering stuff really early. I was pretty dumbfounded on the phone, saying stuff like "great" and even "neat" about 50bazillion times. She ended the conversation by sort of hinting that I wouldn't need to worry about tuition or any of that stuff, and that she'd call back this friday. Plus today the doctor said my White blood cell count was much better now that I've been eating corrrectly and exercising more consistently and not stressing so much. So yep, today was a "red letter day" for me, whatever that really means.
Anyway, that is enough about ol' Joe. I would like to give a "shout out" to my sister for her birthday was on Sunday (we went to Copelands and Target!) and to Peeg and Stacy, who are currently buried up in D.C. Stay warm and make many Polks!
Also, Monday was Michael Jordan's 40th birthday. CNNSI and ESPN both have some great stories about it.
Danball officially starts this weekend... woo-hoo!
I hope everyone is well!
Peace,
Joe

DANBALL! Yes. I will resurrect it. If I play it, Dan will come. Or at least some other people so I don't have to play alone.
A few years ago my brother Geoffrey and a few of his friends invented a little game called Danball. You go buy oars from Wal-Mart and a few of those cheap rubber balls from the huge bins, and then play feild hockey in a parking lot at night with no real rules except to score. At least thats the way I remeber it. It is supposedly named for the guy that delivered pizza the night of the first game: Dan. Hence, Danball. And I see no other better place then here at BSC to revive it. As we speak, I am telling Dave that it is SUPER FUN. Yep. And it is. SO, soon I will revive it. Any and all that read this that know me should call me for details. It will rule.
Besides that, I am still at school. Yep. And guess what? I am updating from the Cellar again on another slow saturday night. The only time I can, I tell you.
Anyway, I hope everyone is well.

Peace,
Joe

Saturday, February 08, 2003

It seems like now the only time I update my site is at work, here in the good ol' Cellar. And even then only when I am on opening shift and only like three customers have come in. So... about my "life" lately... hmmm... classes have started again, and I am going to have a great semester. History and Systems in Psychology, Philosophy of Religion, Intro to Computer Science (yes, I am an aspiring mini-webmather!) and Independent Research. I love all my profs, and my classmates are all either seniors that I am great friends with (as in the first two and last classes mentioned) or my freshman advisees (as in Intro to Comp Sci). So that is cool. The Philosophy course will arm mr a bit better for those Sunday Afternoon dinner conversations for sure, and it is just going to be all-out supa-keen. So thats the semester. Yens.
This Thursady it was Will's birthday, and I would like to take this opportunity to say HANPY BIRNFDAYYEE MENAMAN! Yens. Meghan got him a supa cool digital recorder so we can be rock stars. You watch. It really will happen.
I am enjoying my last term as a college student. Last night I stayed out until 5am or so with Carl, Drew, Amberly, Michelle, Nick, and a few other close friends and then went to a friend's house where we stayed up until around 8am. Then I slept and came to work. Nick was (and still is) here hanging out, and the two Chandler brothers were the no-drinkin'-safe-volvo-drivers for the whole shindig, which was purty cool. A great time was had by all, I'd say. Plus we slept so much Nick gets to stay another night. Which reminds me I should call Ha Liz and Josh so we can hang out. Yep.
Nothing else is really going on... hmmm.... Oh! On friday it was my sister-in-combat (aka research-group member)'s birthday so, HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAROLINE! Yes. Good.
Oh yes, here is a link to the first webpage I have ever built from scratch. It was out assignment on friday in Intro to Comp Sci. It is a few paragraphs about my current research. Notice the background color... I mixed it myself! Woo-Hoo! I know it ain't much, but its a start.
Anyway, I hope eveyone is well!
Peace,
Joe
